He got close to the espionage life in the much-derided comedy Grimsby, but Sacha Baron Cohen is going to get his shot at spying, and via a real-life story. He's now on to star in miniseries The Spy for Netflix.
Gideon Raff, who created the original Israeli version of Homeland and went on to make Tyrant, is writing and directing the six episodes of this new project, which will follow Eli Cohen, a legendary Israeli spy who worked in Syria in the early 1960s. A cunning and charming man, he embedded himself in Syrian high society, rising through the ranks of the country's politics. His actions had lasting consequences, and he helped shape some of today's Middle East.
While SBC has occasionally popped up on TV since he made his start there, this will mark his first regular gig on the small screen for a few years.
