When you picture a slow moving, slimy, odd creature beloved by French diners, the name “Ryan Reynolds” does not automatically spring to mind. But DreamWorks clearly thinks he has the potential to be a snail, and is in negotiations with him to voice the heroic central gastropod in Turbo.
The plot will follow an ordinary garden snail that longs to become the fastest of his kind in the world. When a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, he decides to put his new powers to good use.
David Soren, who has been with DreamWorks since the days of The Road to El Dorado, wrote the script with Shrek Forever After’s Darren Lemke and plans to make it his film-directing debut. The company gave him his first crack at directing with the TV short Merry Madagascar, and he’s also provided the odd voice here and there for various ‘toons.
This will mark Reynolds’ second job for the studio, as he’s already one of the leads in caveman comedy The Croods alongside Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage and Catherine Keener. The Crood****s is scheduled to be out in March 2013, with Turbo following a scant few months afterwards.
