Should you try to remake Home Alone? Most people would say no, but that isn't stopping Ryan Reynolds, director Augustine Frizzell and writers Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider from trying... something. The result they're after is a new comedy called Stoned Alone.

Sounding like the child of the John Hughes original and something more like Van Wilder (yeah, we went there Reynolds) or Deadpool, Stoned Alone will put a spin on the basic conceit of Home's child-battles-burglars. In this movie, a twenty-something pot smoker misses the flight for his holiday ski trip and, instead of trying to catch the next flight or figure out something, decides to just stay home and get high. As paranoia sets in, he thinks he hears an intruder, but he doesn't initially realise that he's actually right. Stoned to the gills, he'll have defend his home and himself...

Reynolds is on to produce for 20th Century Fox via his Maximum Effort company and might take a role. Frizzell is the director of Never Goin' Back, which won praise and a distribution by A24 at the Sundance Film Festival. Burrows and Mider, meanwhile, wrote Netflix comedy The Package, which will hit the streaming service on 10 August.
