If you're sad/frustrated that Paul King is not returning for any possible third Paddington movie, don't direct your hard stares towards the man for being successful. Instead, blame Ryan Reynolds, because he has him busy making a deal to direct a new film called Everyday Parenting Tips.
The film will adapt Simon Rich's short story, which finds a father offering advice to his child when they believe a monster lurks beneath their bed. So far, so standard childhood, but in this case, the kid has a point: there's a real monster uprising impacting the world, with creatures such as Gorgog the Annihilator, Ctharga the Eater of Souls, and a "giant, swirling portal in the sky that looks like a screaming mouth"simply called Drain of Ga.
Universal has scored a big deal on this one, which includes King directing, Reynolds starring and Phil Lord and Chris Miller producing alongside their Lord Miller company chief Aditya Sood.
Rich will adapt his story for the script and act as a producer. The veteran Saturday Night Live writer is having quite the moment for his work, which is often published by the New Yorker. His An American Pickle is hitting UK cinemas (and HBO in the States) this week, while ghost story Stage 13 is on Edgar Wright's To Do list.
