Given everything going on in the world right now, it's somehow comforting to have actual movie news to report that is about films being set up rather than shut down or delayed. And the news streams are full of Ryan news – first Gosling, and now Reynolds, as the Deadpool star is on to star in and produce an adaptation of classic video game title Dragon's Lair.

Created by Rick Ryer and Don Bluth in 1983, Dragon's Lair brought movie-style animation to arcade gaming, with a story that sees a knight named Dirk the Daring questing to rescue Princess Daphne from evil dragon Singe and nasty wizard Mordroc. The game was a hugely popular title, though its promise wasn't lived up to at the time, and it didn't revolutionise gaming the way some thought it might. That said, its influence is still being felt today.

Writers Dan and Kevin Hageman, who have form taking pop culture to the big screen via work on The Lego Movie and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, are on to crank out a script with Netflix nabbing a deal to secure the film. It'll mark Reynolds' latest project with the company, following 6 Underground and Red Notice, which recently had to suspend shooting because of the viral status in Italy.

It also marks his latest game-themed movie, as he's got Free Guy, in which he plays a man who realises he's a Non-Player Character in a Grand Theft Auto-style title. That film is scheduled for a July release, but we'll see if it keeps it.
