After helping to spoof the action genre with MacGruber, Ryan Phillippe is getting back to making a straight-faced example of it, signing up alongside Bruce Willis, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jenna Dewan Tatum for Set Up.
Co-written by Mike Gunther and Mike Behrman and with Gunther calling the shots in Michigan right now, the story finds three friends who get caught up in a diamond heist that begins to turn nasty. You know, because diamond heists are usually such fun little affairs, with dancing and cocktails.
There’s no word on what roles the three are playing, though we’d guess Phillippe is one of the pals who is sucked into the crime. We’re a little more intrigued as to Bruce’s association with the movie, since he was already scheduled to act in Patrick Allesandrin’s Ten, which is also about to start shooting. Maybe he’s trying to work as much as possible so he can escape doing all the Christmas shopping.
Dewan Tatum, meanwhile, is probably more known for having got her big break through dancing in Take The Lead and Step Up, which is where she met husband Channing Tatum. We can just imagine the discussions in the Tatum household for this film: “Are they letting you shoot a gun? Let me show you how…” “Shut up, Channing, I’m trying to watch Dancing with the Stars!” etc.
