Leaving the unrealised connected Dark Universe far behind it, Universal has seen success just handing its monster properties to filmmakers to use as they please, without worrying about some grand scheme. Following on from The Invisible Man, several projects are in the works, and we can now add Ryan Gosling to the mix as the Wolfman.
According to Variety, Gosling pitched the new take on the hairy supernatural troublemaker, which has been turned into a script by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Details are scarce, but it's described as a present-day story along the lines of Nightcrawler, with a wolfy twist.
The next step for the studio on the development road is finding a director, and while there are no frontrunners yet, Universal has been busy meeting filmmakers, and that Thoroughbreds and Bad Education's Cory Finley is among those in serious contention.
This one will likely have to wait for Gosling to be available. Pandemic delays aside, he's also closer to starring in the new adaptation of Martian author Andy Weir's next book, an astronaut tale that has Phil Lord and Chris Miller board to direct.
