While a sequel to one of Harrison Ford’s most iconic cinema associations was being celebrated yesterday, there was some stealthier news about another. Variety reports that Ryan Gosling is now in negotiations to join the once and future Rick Deckard in the Blade Runner sequel.
Plot details for the new movie are scant at this point, though we do know it will take place after the events of the original and features Ford back as Deckard. As for what Gosling might do in the movie? That has yet to be released from the vault of security around the film.
Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve is directing this follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 tech noir thriller, with Hampton Fancher and Michael Green providing the script. Scott is on board as executive producer and consultant for the film, presumably hoping this one doesn’t need 17 different cuts when all is said and done.
As for Gosling, he’s next up in Shane Black’s cop thriller The Nice Guys and is working on Adam McKay’s financial drama The Big Short. His directorial debut, Lost River, is in UK cinemas now. For from the Baby Goose, take a listen to our recent Empire Podcast interview with the man.
