If you were hoping to add Logan’s Run to the special slot on your DVD shelf reserved for Ryan Gosling/Nicolas Winding Refn collaborations, it appears you’ll be disappointed. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that he’s no longer part of the sci-fi remake.

Variety’s Justin Kroll first broke word of the development on Twitter, and now we have final, definite word on the matter.

No reason has been given for Gosling’s departure, nor whether it’ll affect Refn’s status on the project. The pair had been planning for a while to work on the film for Warner Bros.. Logan’s Run would serve as a new take on the William F. Nolan novel that also fuelled the 1976 Michael York version.

So now Warners and, assuming he’s still aboard, Refn will be looking for a new leading man to discover the hard truth behind a society's seemingly perfect idea of having everyone over 30 (or 21 in the book) die a peaceful death to preserve the population.

And devotees of the Church of the Winding Goose will have to comfort themselves with discs of Drive and the upcoming Only God Forgives. At least, that is, until the pair finds something else to work on together...
