Whiplash director Damien Chazelle is staying in the music world for his latest, La La Land, which is already being buzzed about as an awards favourite. The new trailer for the gloriously throwback musical movie has arrived.
La La Land, as the title might suggest is set in Los Angeles, a place known as the fame flame to which young moths are drawn. Just two are Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician and Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress who are struggling to make ends meet as they pursue their dreams. They make a love connection, but their relationship is tested by the pitfalls of their chosen careers.
We're intrigued by the look, sound and feel of this one, and happy to see that Chazelle is keeping up the tradition of JK Simmons berating people. Hopefully he'll find a moment like this in all of his films, like an Alfred Hitchcock cameo but with 100% more withering Simmons.
John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt and Finn Wittrock are also in this one, which is out in the US on 16 December and hits the UK on 13 January.
