We're closing in on nearly two decades in terms of people – producer Joel Silver in particular – trying to make a new adaptation of William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's 1967 novel Logan's Run, memorably brought to the screen in 1976. There is yet another writer attached to the project, with TV producer Ryan Condal now working away.

The new Logan's Run, which apparently will eschew remaking the Michael York-starring film for a new take on the book, has been a hot potato passed between filmmakers for years, with no one quite able to find a take that actually has studio Warner Bros. ready to pull the trigger. The story of a seemingly pleasant utopian society that survives by killing off anyone over 21 (aged up in the first film) has been proving a tough nut to crack, and most recently franchise writing/producing stalwart Simon Kinberg was brought in and produced a treatment, which Condal, who is a co-showrunner on US sci-fi series Colony with Carlton Cuse, is working from.

Whether he'll be able to make it work is anyone's guess at this point, and Logan could conceivably continue to run for a long time. In related film projects, Condal is also working with Cuse on the script for video game adaptation Rampage, which has the San Andreas team of star Dwayne Johnson and director Brad Peyton aboard.
