The longstanding rivalry between Marvel and DC as comicbook companies is prime fodder, and powered Reed Tucker's 2017 book Slugfest: Inside The Epic, 50-year Battle Between Marvel And DC. Now Joe and Anthony Russo, best known for their work with the MCU on the likes of Avengers: Endgame, will be part of the team adapting that concept into a new documentary series.

Tucker's book looked at the rise and turbulent history of both companies, and the growth of comics as an art form. The show will cover that, the behind-the-scenes struggle for dominance, moments when the two worked together and untold tales from both sides.

Directors Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce are overseeing the show, which will be produced for the Quibi app service, premiering short shows and other projects on mobiles. Slugfest is scheduled to premiere on 6 April next year, the same day the service is set to launch. The Russos, meanwhile, are back sharing director duties for new drama Cherry, which stars Tom Holland and has a first image online.
