The Russos and Zack Snyder – Pizza Film School

Recently, we heard James Gunn talking about the possibility of a DC and Marvel crossover. And while that doesn’t seem like an imminent prospect, the two worlds have just collided in a real-world context. Of the many things that Joe and Anthony Russo have been doing after dropping the mic with Marvel behemoths Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame (including directing Cherry and The Gray Man), the pair have been conducting more Pizza Film School interviews. Namely, they sit down with a filmmaker over pizza, and ask them all about their process. For their latest episode? They’re chatting with none other than Zack Snyder, another guy with considerable experience making major comic-book movie blockbusters. The film they’re discussing in particular? Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Cue internet implosion.

For an hour, the trio sit down and discuss Snyder’s process, using his epic four-hour cut of the DC team-up movie as their primary example – all while munching on some particularly delicious-looking pizza. It’s a fascinating conversation between three of the minds behind the most ambitious, character-packed superhero stories out there, comparing their processes, framing, digital photography, scripting processes and much more.

It’s interesting, too, as a conversation between filmmakers for – for now at least – have moved away from superhero fare in recent years. As it stands, the Russo Brothers don’t have any Marvel projects on their slate, while Snyder last released zombie-action film Army Of The Dead, and later this year will debut his original sci-fi film Rebel Moon – a Seven Samurai-inspired movie that was initially scripted as a possible Star Wars project, before being repurposed. While we wait for Rebel Moon, and the Russo Brothers’ The Electric State, this Pizza Film School interview should at least pass an hour.
