C'mon, as a concept Swiss Army Man is pretty out there, as was the casting of Daniel Radcliffe as a flatulence-laden corpse. But it seems that writer/directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert want to get even more out there. To do so, they're teaming up with Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
The project at this point is untitled, and the concept isn't being revealed beyond the fact that it will be a science fiction film. All involved, however, are promising that it will result in as unique a film as Swiss Army Man was. The idea is that the Russos will serve as producers, with Kwan and Scheinert writing and directing.
In an interview with nofilmschool.com, Scheinert reflected of their creative approach, "The funny thing is, a lot of times the idea that really speak to us are ones that we're not quite show how we're going to pull off yet. We'll come up with something and be, like, 'That sounds awesome; I bet that would look cool, but I'm not sure how we will do it.' Then we have to do research and have a debate about how to send a man rocketing across the ocean on a fart-powered corpse."
Added Kwan, "We like to think of our movies as orphans. They're bad ideas that no one else wants to make."
The Russos obviously disagree.
Scheinert and Kwan come from a background in short films as actors and directors. Swiss Army Man, however, elevated them to a whole other level and even earned them Sundance directing honors. The Russos have a long list of credits, beginning in television on such shows as Happy Endings, Community and Animal Practice, before hitting the big screen with Marvel Cinematic Universe entries Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and the next two Avengers films, which are currently shooting back to back. Infinity War has a release date of May 4, 2018, and the untitled fourth film in the series on May 3, 2019.
