Thanks to the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and especially this year's huge Civil War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been able to set up various projects to either produce, direct or both. And while you might think they have enough to do with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films, they are still adding to their plate, planning to adapt classic gang warfare thriller The Warriors for the small screen.

Walter Hill's 1979 original adapted Sol Yurick's 1965 novel, which focuses on the eponymous gang, framed for the murder of a rival leader when he tries to organise the various warring factions of New York City in a bid to take it over. In the middle of hostile territory, the Warriors must fight their way through a variety of opponents as they try to make it back to their home turf of Coney Island.

The film faced issues when it was first released with worries about copycat violence, but it has long since become a cult film, spawning comic book spin-offs and a video game. Naturally, we'd expect there to be concerns about tackling such a warmly embraced movie, though the Russos have proven they can tackle tough prospects. The duo have hired Frank Baldwin to write the script and are aboard to direct the pilot, but may not have time to do much more given their big Marvel commitment. Paramount TV – which has been busy repurposing movies from the film studio's back catalogue – and Hulu are backing this one, which at least means the series won't have to abide by normal US broadcast standards.
