After years of speculation on what form a new version of **Teen Wolf **might take, MTV finally started gearing up a new TV series based on the 1985 Michael J Fox film last year. And according to the lads at Shock 'Till You Drop, Highlander's Russell Mulcahy is the man to make the pilot.

The show will follow Tyler Posey as Scott McCall who, in this story is actually bitten by a wolf instead of inheriting his hairy athletic traits. He's joined by Dylan O'Brien as his initially skeptical best mate, Crystal Reed as the new girl at school who falls for Scott and Tyler Hoechlin as a hunky local who hides his own dark secret (hint: it has to do with werewolves).

Mulcahy hasn't had a lot of luck with his recent work; he's largely been directing straight-to-DVD material, so he'll be hoping for a kudos boost if this turns out well. It'll need to, since it's already facing a wave of negative backlash buzz about unnecessary remakes.

So far, all MTV has committed to is a "pilot presentation", and a glorified TV movie which means that executive producer Jeff Davis and his cast will have to convince everyone that the show is worth committing to. Bet they're hoping it'll turn into a new Buffy
