If you'd told us to predict the movie events of 2022, we're not 100% sure we'd have "Russell Crowe joins one of Sony's many Spider-Man-adjacent superhero films" on our bingo card. We're wishing we had, though, as he's now part of the cast for Kraven The Hunter.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is on board to star in the title role, with Margin Call and Triple Frontier director JC Chandor preparing to call the shots.

In case you might not be acquainted with the fur-wearing tough nut, Sergei Kravinoff, AKA Kraven the Hunter, is one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies as well as the half-brother of the Chameleon. He's a character that Sony has been trying to bring to the screen for a while, and was rumoured during Andrew Garfield's tenure in the Spidey suit. You might have caught an indistinct glimpse of the character at the end of No Way Home as one of the people troubling the multiverse barrier.

What role Crowe has agreed to take on is unknown for now, though The Hollywood Reporter has heard that several of Kraven's family appear in the plot, so perhaps we're looking at a gruff father figure?

The actor, of course, has form with superhero adventures, having appeared in several of Zack Snyder's DC movies. He'll next show up in another, playing Zeus in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love And Thunder, due on 8 July.
