The latest iteration of A Star Is Born has been lingering in limbo for a while at Warners, but it might just get a new boost if the studio decides to cast Russell Crowe in one of the lead roles.
While nothing has been locked down –indeed, the LA Times reports that Crowe is simply high on the executives' wish list – it's the strongest sign yet that the movie might actually crawl into production.
If he does sign, he'll most likely be starring opposite Beyonce, who will take the central role of the young star who is mentored by, and romances, an aging, alcoholic muso.
While the 1954 original followed a singer/actress, the 1976 remake focused on the music industry, casting Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand, and scooped an Oscar for the love theme penned by Streisand and Paul Williams.
As for behind the camera? Nick Cassavetes is the current name linked to the director's chair. Of course, they could all drop out and this one could return to the cinematic waiting room, but given the enthusiasm for the latest script, penned by Remember Me's Will Fetters, it might finally strut its stuff in front of the cameras.
