Russell Brand Is Hawkwood

Must not make “pork swordsman” joke… Must not make “pork swordsman” joke…” Oh! Hello! So Russell Brand is making the most of his current movie popularity and, while he’s still busy filming the Arthur remake, has set up another possible comedy project with Hawkwood.

If the film, which is being set up at 20th Century Fox, goes ahead, it’ll blend in action with Brand’s usual comedy stylings to chronicle the adventures of a real-life swashbuckler from Renaissance times.

John Hawkwood, a talented blade-swinger with loose morals and a mercenary attitude, was paid to lead a number of different European armies in the 1400s, serving under several banners including those of both Italy and France.

Brand brought the idea to Fox comedy head Nicky Weinstock, who then hired Jared Stern (one of no doubt several script doctors on Arthur) to start bashing out a screenplay with Brand’s particular style in mind. No doubt he’ll be a hard-living, womanising sort and likely a lot quippier than the actual John Hawkwood.

There’s no word on when it’ll get shooting (assuming it can battle its way through development), but it sounds like the sort of film that would suit Brand perfectly.

Pork swordsman! Dammit…
