Paramount has used one or two characters from the Nickelodeon channel it has corporate links to for films, including SpongeBob SquarePants and Rugrats. Now, though, the studio is looking to blend them together in one big movie, with Napoleon Dynamite's Jared Hess overseeing the animated antics.

According to Deadline, Hess and wife Jerusha Hess have been hired to flesh out an idea by executive Ali Mendes, who dreamt up a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-style idea to bring together characters from shows such as Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, The Angry Beavers and more. Quite how it will be achieved remains to be seen, but at least there aren't the same rights issues to be worked out.

And this will be targeting both current kids and their parents, who have fond memories of watching the older characters - who wouldn't want to see some of these wacky creations interacting, even if it's tough to see their styles merging well.

Hess most recently brought us Masterminds, which came out here last year but was thrown into limbo across the pond thanks to the solvency problems of original distributor

Relativity Media and should now arrive in September in the States. There's also Sam Rockwell/Danny McBride/Will Forte archaeological comedy Don Verdean, which has yet to secure a release date here.
