Are you sick and tired of traditional movie villains, those copycat killers who stalk ‘n’ slash a variety of nubile teens while wearing some stupid mask? Are you ready for something different? Are you eager for a film in which a sentient tyre goes on a killing spree? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, we’d suggest A) professional help or B) an injection of madness from Rubber, which has just put out a trailer.

Rubber focuses on Robert, a tyre left out in the desert that, for some unexplained reason, comes to life. But this is no ordinary wheelmate: Robert discovers that he (it?) possesses terrible psychokinetic powers that mean anyone who causes him trouble ends up with serious, Scanners-style head trauma. And when Robert graduates from hunting birds and animals to murderlising humans, the race is on to stop the killer object from continuing its deadly spree.

Electro-musician Quentin Dupieux is the twisted mind behind this one, and the film is due out on April 1 across the pond. There’s no word on a UK release just yet, though. Still, check out the trailerand let us know your thoughts.

And some of you may remember that Empire’s own Chris Hewitt caught up with Robert at last year’s Cannes film festival, and you can watch their interaction on the relevant Cannes Videblogisode.Warning: contains scenes of a romantic nature between a man and a tyre.
