Looks like Martin McDonagh’s gain is Sly Stallone’s Mickey Rourke-shaped loss: the actor is now in negotiations to join McDonagh’s next film, Seven Psychopaths.
But while it means that he’ll likely be seen alongside Colin Farrell. Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken in the In Bruges’ writer/director’s latest effort, the scheduling means he won’t be joining back up with Sly and the gang for the Simon West-directed sequel.
According to Deadline, it appears he wasn’t going to anyway – while there’s no official confirmation on why he dropped out, it would seem the payday wasn’t quite enough to justify his presence.
Psychopaths will find Farrell as a scriptwriter in LA who is having real trouble with his latest work, the titular screenplay. Looking to distract himself, he falls in with dognapping friends Rockwell and Walken, which ultimately leads to the beloved Shih Tzu of a crazed gangster going missing. Cue exactly the sort of drama that Farrell needs to jolt him out of writer’s block… If he survives.
We’re guessing Rourke would play the gangster, which sees tailored made for a man who can do rage and pet obsession in real life anyway. And it could be just what he needs after some of his post-Wrestler choices turned out to have more than a little whiff of turkey about them…
