Online DVD/streaming service Netflix has been ploughing ahead with plans to become a TV show provider in its own right. The latest move? Working on a deal with Hostel writer/director Eli Roth to bring Hemlock Grove to the screen.

By the time you read this, the ink should be drying on the contract for Roth and Brian McGreevy – who wrote the eponymous novel the show will be based on – to co-create 13 episodes.

The book itself will be out in March and blends myths, legends, werewolf tales and relationship struggles into a murder mystery set in the titular small Pennsylvania town. The list of suspects narrows down to two lads, who must try to figure out the real killer before their lives become forfeit.

McGreevy will collaborate with regular writing partner Lee Shipman, and the pair is well versed in horror tropes. They’re currently at work re-imagining Dracula for Warner Bros. and producer Leonardo DiCaprio.

Netflix (which has announced plans to launch in the UK in 2012) is already working away on a new US version of political drama House Of Cards with Kevin Spacey starring and David Fincher producing and has also found the funds to get the Arrested Development gang back together for new episodes…
