Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels might not be directly continuing the story of the horror drama series (the spin-off is described as a "spiritual descendant"), yet it has however, found room for one of the stalwarts of the original.Rory Kinnear will appear on the new show as a new character.

Kinnear, who brought Frankenstein's creature to life in compelling, charismatic fashion, will here play Dr. Peter Craft, a successful German pediatrician and the head of the German-American Bund, an organization he hopes will keep the United States isolated from the growing threat of war in Europe.

Set in Los Angeles, the new series will see a grisly murder shock the city, and embroil Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) in an epic story that reflects the rich history of LA — from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism.

Nathan Lane, Natalie Dormer, Adriana Barraza, Jessica Garza and Johnathan Nieves are all in the cast for this one, which springs once again from the brain of creator John Logan. It'll shoot in LA later this year and is expected on screens in 2020. With Kinnear popping up, dare we dream of a role or even just a cameo for Eva Green?

Last seen in Peterloo, Kinnear is part of the cast for Russell T. Davies' Years And Years and is rumoured to be returning as Tanner for the next Bond film.
