After hearing little solid forward movement on the Transformers franchise (aside from some director/writer announcements), we got enough news last week on the latest to wrap around Cybertron. And there's an extra tidbit today, with Collider reporting that genre stalwart Ron Perlman is aboard Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.
With Steven Caple Jr. directing, the new film will see robo-characters from the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons joining the fray alongside the usual Autobots (led once again by the Peter Cullen-voiced Optimus Prime) and Decepticons.
Perlman will voice Optimus Primal, leader of the Maximals and a brave and honorable warrior who is also captain (on TV, at least, we'll have to wait and see if this carries over into the movie) of the spaceship Axalon. His beast mode is a powerful gorilla. The actor is no stranger to the role – he voiced Primal on the animated series Transformers: Power Of The Primes.
Part of the story for this new movie will be set in 1994, with Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback as the latest humans to be caught up in the conflict. Production is underway now and the movie is targeting on 24 June next year.
