There have been films about Mick, Keef and the gang, better known as the Rolling Stones, and there have been movies featuring some of them as actors. But Downtown Abbey veteran director Andy Goddard is on to make one of the former variants with Exile On Main Street: A Season In Hell With The Rolling Stones.
As the title might suggest, the film – a drama, though based on the real events – will chronicle the Stones during the summer they spent recording the famous album. Brandon and Philip Murphy adapted the script from Robert Greenfield's book and the next step will be to find people to play Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in particular: no easy task.
The film itself, backed by Richard Branson's Virgin Produced company, has been in the works since at least 2012. Assuming everything works out, Goddard should be shooting the film later this year. The director just saw his latest film, A Kind Of Murder, start its festival run in New York. And he's also been busy directing episodes of Marvel's Netflix TV series, including Daredevil and Luke Cage. He's set to move to The Punisher whenever that series starts filming.
