Despite what appears in the credits, director Gareth Edwards didn't have the easiest time of it while making Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for Lucasfilm. So you can perhaps understand why he might have wanted to take a little time before settling on his next project. According to Variety, he's now developing an untitled sci-fi film with production company New Regency.

Many of the details are still under wraps for the film, which like his breakthrough work on Monsters, is an original idea he dreamt up. What we do know so far is it's a near-future tale.

Edwards is busy gathering his cast and looking to start filming in the summer. It'll follow his work on the Rogue One and, before that, 2014's Godzilla. He's been developing several projects, figuring out which was best, and finally decided on this untitled script, which New Regency leapt at the minute it hit the market.
