Cancer. It’s no laughing matter, right?
Well, try telling that to Seth Rogen, who has signed on to produce and appear in a new comedy called I’m With Cancer, about the trials and tribulations of a cancer sufferer.
Wait a minute. Put down those placards. Stow away the moral outrage. For I’m With Cancer is written by Will Reiser, an American TV producer who discovered in his mid-twenties that he had the Big C. And if he can laugh at his experiences, that should give the rest of us the greenlight to laugh with him.
I’m With Cancer is a largely autobiographical account of his battle to beat the disease – but the involvement of Rogen, his producing partner Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin, a writer/producer on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and co-creator of the wonderful The Colbert Report, indicates that this won’t be your typical Hollywood schmaltzfest. Instead, expect lots of taboo-breaking humour in any shade, as long as it’s black, and plenty of smarts.
It’s not yet known who Rogen will play in the film, but he won’t be taking the lead role – he’s far too busy with The Green Hornet to take on anything bigger, we’d suspect.
Mandate Pictures is stumping up the cash for the movie, which is being put on the fast-track. It’s going out to directors later this month.
