Hot off the heels of Bohemian Rhapsody’s huge success, the stage is set for Dexter Fletcher’s Elton John pic to enrapture audiences. Hell, the filmmaker even helped wrap up Rhapsody’s shoot when Bryan Singer was ousted from the project near the end of the shoot. But it sounds like Rocketman will differ from the Freddie Mercury film in a few key ways – firstly, it’s a full-on all-singing all-dancing musical rather than a straightforward biopic, and secondly, its lead star Taron Egerton will sing all the songs, rather than lip-syncing to the original recordings. A new teaser featurette has revealed a first look at Egerton singing in the role.

As well as featuring Egerton’s rendition of ‘Tiny Dancer’ – previously immortalised on film in a brilliant scene in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous – the clip includes Fletcher (metaphorically) singing his star’s praises. “Taron’s actually singing in the film, and he’s so convincing and his voice is incredible,” the director enthuses. In fact, the actor has form in belting out Elton John’s hits for the big screen – he previously performed ‘I’m Still Standing’ in Garth Jennings’ animation Sing, albeit as a gorilla.

Rocketman, which also stars the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Madden, Jamie Bell, and Stephen Graham, is heading to UK cinemas this summer on 24 May – and you can cast your eye at a new poster below.
