The Rock Is The Tooth Fairy

This might give kids something to think about the next time they place an extracted tooth under their pillow at night – The Rock is The Tooth Fairy.

Or at least he is in the upcoming 20th Century Fox family comedy of the same name.

In the Michael Lembeck film, which starts filming in August, The Rock – or Dwayne Johnson, as he likes to be known now that he’s a proper actor – will play an ordinary man who’s recruited to save the tooth fairy kingdom. Hilarity, needless to say, ensues.

It’s a bit of a shame – The Rock, had all the right attributes to become a bona fide action star, with bone-crunching turns in the likes of Doom and the sorely under-rated Welcome To The Jungle.

But with his Disney comedy The Game Plan proving to be his biggest hit to date, he’s clearly decided to go down the family-friendly route for now, with this set to follow up his starring role in another Disney flick, Witch Mountain. Oh, for the days when he could decimate an entire room of goons with just a flick of his eyebrow.

We can only hope that the script for The Tooth Fairy doesn’t just rely on the obviously inherently inspired device of ‘big man playing supposedly delicate creature’ to generate laughs. And the presence of Babaloo Mandel & Lowell Ganz on scripting duties (along with Jeffrey Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin) raises that hope somewhat.

However, given that Lembeck directed The Santa Clause 2 and 3 (movies which sound like cousins of The Tooth Fairy), we have a growing feeling of dismay that the movie will involve His Rockness knocking a lot of things over and falling on his face. Can’t wait.
