With the reboot tag already hanging over it, the new version of **RoboCop **really will have to go some to improve upon Paul Verhoeven’s iconic original. So MGM is firing the first blast of its marketing salvo in the run up to Comic-Con by launching this viral site. Take a look at the video running on it below.
Presented as an Omnicorp briefing message, it includes a look at some of the company’s projects, including aerial drone XT-908 and a certain Mr Edward-209, who has gotten a CG makeover here but still looks remarkably like Phil Tippett’s classic ‘bot. It’ll have its work cut out to match the pure charisma and comic value of the stair-hating original, but at least they seem to respect the fact that the Enforcement Droid was well designed from the outset.
As for Alex Murphy / RoboCop (played, in this film by Joel Kinnaman), we get a very brief look at part of him, and we’d be surprised if we didn’t see more at Comic-Con, even if nothing official has been announced.
