Robert Schwentke is suddenly a very popular man in Hollywood. Just last week, he was linked to true-life sunken treasure tale **Shadow Divers and now the LA Times is reporting that he’s taken a meeting about directing comic book project **R.I.P.D., which boasts Ryan Reynolds attached to star.
Wait, we hear you saying, wasn’t McG the man for the job? He flirted with the idea, but with the Terminator Salvation director gearing up to make spy action comedy This Means War, there’s a schedule clash since R.I.P.D. backers Universal and Dark Horse want the film ready to shoot next summer, when Reynolds has a brief window in his schedule.
The Times report says that Schwentke is a big fan of the comic book source material, which finds a recently slain cop assigned to the task force that keeps wayward spirits in order. He’s partnered up with a centuries-dead gunslinger as the pair also try to figure out who killed the rookie.
It would seem that Schwentke will have plenty of projects to choose from, between this, Divers and The Osterman Weekend. But if he does pick R.I.P.D**.**, he’ll need to give up hopes of a break between promoting Red and getting to work on it, since the producers want to start developing the look of the film as soon as possible.
