Robert Rodriguez, a man who seemingly likes to have umpteen projects on the go at once (he's currently developing Barbarella and a TV show called Women In Chains) has begun casting on what will surely be his next film to make it in front of cameras.

Shorts is a family film, to be written and directed by Rodriguez, set in an identikit town where everybody works for the same company, Black Box, which is used for almost every function of the inhabitants' lives. Chaos follows when a boy is hit in the head with a rainbow-coloured rock that grants wishes. That second sentence really took us by surprise as a plot development.

Rodriguez has lined up a terrific cast of comedy talents. So far the cast counts William H. Macy, John Cryer, James Spader and Leslie Mann, regular supporting actress in Judd Apatow projects (and also his wife) and a woman who deserves to be seen on screen a lot more. With that level of talent this should hopefully be one for the older members of the family as well as the littl'uns.
