No one would disagree that David Michôd rounded up a great cast for his first big film, the excellent Aussie crime thriller Animal Kingdom. But it appears he’ll be snagging and even more famous bunch of names for his follow-up, Rover, with Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce now locking in deals to co-star.
As we reported early last month, Rover**, which Michôd cooked up with Animal star Joel Edgerton, finds a man (Pearce) tracking down a group of car thieves (including Pattinson) when they half-inch his motor in the Outback. You’d think they’d know from LA Confidential, Memento, The Proposition or, more recently, Lockout that no one messes with Guy Pearce’s stuff and gets away with it.
It’s clearly the week for Pattinson circling acting gigs, as he was announced for Mission: Blacklist just yesterday. He’s starring in David Cronenberg’s oddball drama Cosmopolis, which launches at Cannes, and will next be seen in the final chunk of Breaking Dawn.
Pearce has a role in Prometheus and John Hillcoat’s Prohibition drama Lawless. He’s also preparing to head to the set of Iron Man 3, where he’ll play a scientist.
