Rather than have the suit leak via some awful pap pictures on set, all badly handled lighting and weird details showing up, The Batman's director Matt Reeves has chosen instead to go the arty, camera test route to show off what Robert Pattinson looks like in the gear. It's dark, it's moody and it boasts a short score by the film's composer, Michael Giacchino. Take a look....
Yes, it's hard to tell much at this point, and if we're honest, the red lighting does it few favours, making it look like a cross between Charlie Cox in Daredevil and some fan cosplaying while in an emergency light-strewn hotel corridor.
That said, Pattinson certainly proves he has the chin for the job, and the shots have atmosphere, even if they are a director and his team simply looking at what the character might look like on screen – bear in mind that details can and likely will change. Now, of course, we need to hear Pattinson's best stab at, "I'm BATMAN!"
The Batman will be Reeves (and co-writer Mattson Tomlin) take on the iconic DC character, reportedly eschewing the origin-story route to take place in the Caped Crusader's Year Two. Though the plot is mostly a mystery for now (if they keep to the idea of Bats as a detective, it should be a mystery anyway but... yeah, we'll stop), what we do know is the cast includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon. Filming is well underway and the movie is scheduled to brood on rooftops before leaping into UK cinemas on 25 June next year.
