Robert Luketic To Direct Barbarella?

As silly intergalactic remakes go, **Barbarella **would have to be up there with The Day The Earth Stood Still and a SMASH robots origin story. Or so you'd imagine, except that it's happening and, suggests the Hollywood grapevine, now has **21 **and Legally Blonde's Robert Luketic behind the camera.

According to EW.com, producer Dino De Laurentiis, the man who's decided there's still gold in them tha' hills, appointed Luketic after his first choice Robert Rodriguez decided that Universal's German shoot would take him too far from his family in Texas.

Although Luketic is a far cry from both Rodriguez and the man De Laurentiis hired for the 1968 original, French director Roger Vadim, he did direct Jane Fonda in 2005's Monster-In-Law which, while tenuous, does provide just the kind of link needed to finish this sentence.

So what will the noughties reincarnation of the none-more-'60s space-age sex kitten look like? "It will be a big intergalactic adventure with a sexy twist," says the source, sounding suspiciously like they were reading off the DVD cover of the original.

No word yet on who will play Barbarella herself, so get yourself to the nearest fantasy casting couch and send in your suggestions...
