We will naturally have to start this one with a spoiler alert, but just in case you're one of the few people in the world not to have seen Avengers: Endgame, skip ahead to the next paragraph. Still with us? Right then... You'll know that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark sacrificed himself to stop Thanos, which left a Stark-shaped hole in the MCU. According to comics writer Eve Ewing, who introduced the actor at a recent event, he's all for Riri Williams, AKA comicbook Stark successor Ironheart, taking over.
"The real story here is that Robert Downey Jr. said publicly in a room full of people that Ironheart should be in the MCU. I went straight back to the press area afterward and was like YOU ALL HEARD IT, WRITE THAT DOWN," Ewing posted to her Twitter account, which was picked up by Screen Rant.
Williams, created by Brian Michael Bendis and designed by Mike Deodato made her debut in the Invincible Iron Man title and then took over as the focus. She's a 15-year-old engineering student who crafts a version of the Iron Man armour. Endorsed by Stark himself, she ends up becoming a hero known as Ironheart.
As with Ms. Marvel, Riri represents the chance for a younger, newer, more diverse generation of MCU heroes on the big screen. But while having Downey's backing is nice, it's no guarantee that she'll actually make her way to the cinematic universe any time soon.
