The last time he starred in a film with a comedic bent and "Grandpa" somewhere in title... Well, we know what happened. So we're hoping for better things from Robert De Niro's next potential film. The War With Grandpa.
The film has Matt Ember and Tom Astle adapting Robert Kimmel Smith's novel, which finds a kid torn between his affection for his grandfather and his cherished bedroom. When his grandmother dies, grandpa moves in and, thanks to his dodgy leg, he can't live in the attic bedroom. So you can figure out what happens next... Yes, the boy is punted upstairs, but starts a Home Alone-style (though hopefully not as violent) prank war to reclaim his territory, only to discover that gramps is pretty adept at the tricks himself.
Director Tim Hill has a track record in family-focused films, though the presence of Alvin And The Chipmunks on his CV does give us pause. De Niro will be squeezing this film in before he reunites with Martin Scorsese to make The Irishman, so if this one doesn't work out well, that might be a salve.
