Robbie Williams: Village Idiot?

Every once in a while a news story comes along that despite its dodgy provenance and general unlikeliness, we still feel it's worth sharing with Empire Online readers. Today, two London newspapers are reporting the frankly bizarre story that popster Robbie Williams is in talks to star in a movie about the Village People. It gets better; apparently he's keen to play the band's gay cowboy. According to The Metro and the London Evening Standard, Williams is putting up a great wadge of money to secure the film rights to the story, telling a friend. 'The Village People were icons. They defined disco and their story is amazing. It will make a great movie.' The unnamed source (that's handy, then) goes on to say that Robbie told them that, 'some of the Village People were gay and some of them weren't. But, gay or not, they were great entertainers and their story deserves to be told.' All together now, 'Young Man....
