Musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie is known for his gore-splattered movies including House Of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. So it's perhaps surprising to see him tackle something so family-friendly (if still with one toe in the horror genre) as The Munsters. That said, he's a fan and has been enthusiastically talking up his movie adaptation of the 1960s TV series – so here comes the first teaser, featuring the film's leads recreating the show's opening...

With Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, the film finds Zombie reuniting some of his regular players. "I wanted to cast people that had worked together a lot," Zombie tellsEW. "I couldn't risk getting on set in Budapest and going, my leads aren't getting along, they have no chemistry. So that's why I chose the cast I chose. Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie and Daniel Roebuck, they work together a lot and I knew they would just fall right into it."

The cast also includes Jorge Garcia, Richard Brake, Catherine Schell, Sylvester McCoy, and Cassandra Petersen (AKA horror legend Elvira), who plays real estate agent Barbara Carr.

Zombie has yet to reveal much about the plot, but the show usually tended to revolve around the friendly family of monsters trying to figure out why their neighbours are scared of them.

The Munsters should be in cinemas later this year via Universal (and streaming on Peacock). Check out the sitcom's credits below.
