Good news for fans of shameless mugging, lowest common denominator gags and artless pratfalls – Rob Schneider has started work on a new comedy!

Schneider has signed to star in Virgin On Bourbon Street, which started filming this week in Detroit.

Unusually for Schneider, though, it doesn’t seem to be a Happy Madison production, and therefore doesn’t involve his old buddy Adam Sandler in any capacity. Nor does the movie appear to revolve around his character.

Instead, it’s about a sexually abstinent woman student whose career is threatened by a night of debauchery.

Ahhh… debauchery. That’s normally where Schneider comes in – although we get a sense with this one that this is a deliberate attempt to break away from the one-note, high-concept comedies of his past, from Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo to The Hot Chick to the criminally under-rated Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, and perhaps earn some kudos for a nice supporting turn.

The film, which will be directed by The Wedding Date’s Clare Kilner, also stars Jenna Dewan and Brianne Davis.
