Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been steadily building a cadre of cops for the film adaptation of cult TV police drama 21 Jump Street, and now they’re zeroing on another star for the piece, with former Daily Show performer Rob Riggle in talks.
If he signs, Riggle will play a scarred member of an organisation called D.A.D – Dads Against Drugs. Looking to help him in his anti-narcotics crusade, presumably, will be fresh-faced police officers Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, dispatched by their chief (Ice Cube) to tackle crime at a local high school by going undercover as students. There, the pair deals with their old high school issues (we’d imagine Hill’s character has more of those than someone who looks like Tatum, but who knows?)
Riggle was last seen in rom com Going the Distance and on the right side of the law (though as a jerky cop) in The Other Guys. He’s also cropped up in Killers, The Hangover and Step Brothers, and can often be found in videos on the Funny or Die site. He’ll next show up in Larry Crowne and Everybody Loves Whales.
**Jump Street **will start filming next week and will be out on April 10 next year.
