The news broke a few days ago that Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven were already aboard. This morning they've been joined in the cast of I Melt With You by Middle Number Two himself, Rob Lowe.
Mark Pellington's indie movie (very indie: the budget is just $1m) is, according to the man himself, a Cassavetes-like ensemble drama dealing with friendship, ageing and death. He thrashed out the basic story with Glenn Porter, who then shut himself away to write the full screenplay. It is, says the director, "dark".
Lowe, like Jane and Piven (who respectively have Hung and Entourage on the go) will be taking time out from his day job on ABC's Brothers and Sisters, now into its fifth season. Useful regular income that, allowing for the odd film that pays nuthin'. In I Melt With You he'll play "a doctor struggling with deep personal loss and a growing drug addiction".
Lowe's is the third of a reported four central roles in the film, so expect further casting news before too long. Shooting starts next month.
