Rob Lowe’s new sitcom, The Grinder, was recently cancelled after just one season. But having been Robbed of a job, the actor is trying not to stay too Lowe. In fact, he’s already signed up for his next gig: he’ll be joining CBS medical drama Code Black.

Set in a hectic LA emergency room, Code Black debuted in September 2015. Lowe will pop up in Season 2 of the TV show, where he’ll play Col. Ethan Willis, a doctor in the Army's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program.

The colonel is ostensibly there to teach the staff about combat medicine – but this being network drama, we can surely expect fireworks, as Lowe himself seemed to imply with this Instagram post captioned, "Very exciting news coming. Stay tuned".

Lowe joins a cast that includes Marcia Gay Harden, Raza Jaffrey, and Bonnie Somerville. The actor is no stranger to TV, of course, having starred in six seasons of NBC sitcom Parks & Recreation and five seasons of The West Wing.
