Saturday Night Live might once have been an actor-factory, pumping out stars and sketch spin-offs, but these days it’s the Daily Show alumni who are truly everywhere in Hollywood. Led by big breadwinner Steve Carell, the likes of Ed Helms, Rob Riggle and John Oliver have all been forging healthy careers. And Rob Corddry’s now adding his name to Michael Bay’s low-budget pic Pain And Gain.

The film, which Bay is making inbetween massive Transformers sequels, is based on a true story about bodybuilders in Florida who cook up a scheme involving kidnapping, extortion and murder.

Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Ed Harris are already attached as the leads and now Corddry is locking in a deal to play John Mese, a former competitive bodybuilder himself who is Wahlberg’s boss at the gym where he works. Thanks to his accountancy skills, he’s unwillingly dragged into their dodgy plan.

Bay is directing from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and he’ll kick off shooting this spring.

Corddry, meanwhile, will next be seen in Butter, Rapturepalooza and Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World. He’s also got a major role in Warm Bodies, but that has now been shuffled back for release in 2013.
