RJ Cutler is switching from documentaries – his last job was The September Issue, about publisher Vogue magazine – to teen drama, with Warners hiring him to direct Au Pairs.
The studio bought the rights to Melissa de la Cruz’s book **The Au Pairs **six years ago, but despite winning Drew Barrymore and her Flower Films company as producers, it’s languished in development hell.
But now the tale of three teenage girls entering the fashionable world of New York holiday homes in the Hamptons via one of the lowest rungs is now back in favour, with Warners hoping to snag the burgeoning teen/tween girl audience and looking to de la Cruz’s follow-up books as a possible franchise should this one work.
