Andrea Riseborough has made quite the impact across the last few years, with solid performances in the likes of Made In Dagenham, Never Let Me Go and Brighton Rock. Now she’s secured another plum role, signing on to co-star in crime thriller Welcome To The Punch.

There’s no word on exactly who she’ll be playing, but Riseborough is on as the female lead opposite James McAvoy. He’s starring as a detective who enters into an unlikely partnership with a criminal (Mark Strong) to investigate a political corruption conspiracy that threatens both of their lives. The story has been described as squatting firmly in the mould of Heat or Internal Affairs.

Eran Creevy, who last brought us 2008’s mini-budget thriller Shifty, is directing from his own script, and has the backing of Ridley Scott’s Scott Free company. He’ll start cranking the cameras next month in London.

Before she crops up in the film, Riseborough will be seen in World War II drama Resistance alongside Michael Sheen, Madonna’s W.E. and IRA thriller Shadow Dancer.
