After working on several animated films for Fox and Blue Sky (most notably three Ice Ages and the bird-filled Rio movies), Carlos Saldanha has been focusing more on live-action, including contributing a segment to portmanteau film Rio, I Love You. He’s blending his knowledge of CG with directing living people for monster movie **Shadows{ =nofollow}.

20th Century Fox has nabbed a pitch document from writer Jason Micallef, who outlined a plan for a three-film franchise reportedly set in the world of cryptozoology (Nessie, Bigfoot and their ilk). Not much more is known about the potential film beyond that, but the studio was quick to lock in Saldanha’s services for at least the first entry, which will blend CG effects with live action for a story that the studio no doubt hopes will engage audiences the way Jurassic World has.

Saldanha has various other projects bubbling away in development, including book series adaptation Timeless and Rust, which is based on Royden Lepp’s graphic novel. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Shadows could leap over both of those to become his full-length live-action debut.
