Buried in an announcement that production company Legendary Pictures will be bringing presentations about four of its big new titles to this year’s Comic-Con – Pacific Rim, Paradise Lost, Seventh Son and Mass Effect – was a sneaky little update to the Rim cast, with word that Babel actress Rinko Kikuchi is now on board.

Collider picked up the general announcement about the panel, which will feature Q&As with the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Alex Proyas, Bradley Cooper, Jeff Bridges, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Mark Protosevich. And, we’re guessing some sort of concept art display, though there’s unlikely to be much in the way of actual footage, since none of the movies have actually kicked off shooting yet.

Rim, of course, is del Toro’s big return to directing, crafting a tale of humanity under attack from giant creatures and scrambling to deploy massive machines to fight back.

The team over at The Playlist clearly have gotten a look at the script and pegged Kikuchi as playing Mako Mori, one of the pilots who teams up with Hunnam’s character to wage war after they both lose their own co-pilots. Elba will be their boss, while Charlie Day is on as a scientist trying to track down the source of the marauding monsters and find other ways to stop them.

GDT is scheduled to start shooting in October ready for a summer 2013 release.
