Retirement... Schmetirement. Admittedly, Steven Soderbergh hasn't ever said he was leaving movies forever, no comebacksies, but he's seemed pretty committed to TV in the last few years. Yet he's been quietly setting up to direct a new film called Logan Lucky, recruiting Channing Tatum and Michael Shannon and now adding Riley Keough into the mix.
Tatum and Shannon are on board as brothers who plan a heist to take place under the cover of a big NASCAR race. There's no word on who Keough will play, but she'll likely be involved in the crime.
This represents Soderbergh gathering people he's worked with directly before (Tatum and Keough were both part of Magic Mike), while Shannon has only had a tangential connection before – he appeared in 2005's Criminal, which Soderbergh co-wrote using a pseudonym. More recently Keough starred in The Girlfriend Experience TV series inspired by Soderbergh's film, though he's only a producer on that one.
Given the people involved – and that it represents Soderbergh's return to cinema – we'd expect this one to attract plenty of interest at the Cannes film market. As for Keough, she'll next be seen in Andrea Arnold's American Honey, which is premiering at the festival itself.
